Who are we?
In September 2025, the Uppingham Pickleball Group will join forces with the Stamford Pickleball Group and will be known as the Stamford & Uppingham Pickleball Group. This exciting merger of the two groups opens up the possibility of more sessions for people to play locally, catering to the needs of the complete beginner and those who enjoy more competitive play.
The combined groups will be led by Nicki Townsend and Shaun Cowan.

How to join and book a place?
Due to their popularity, the sessions are not drop-in but must be booked in advance.
If you would like to apply to join the group please click on the link here. Please note, however, that whilst we try to be as inclusive as possible, pickleball is a fast game that carries its own risk of injury, as with any racket sport. A certain level of fitness is required. You should first check with your medical provider if you have any concerns about your ability to participate. Your admittance to the group is conditional upon an assessment of your ability to participate safely and the Stamford & Uppingham Pickleball Group reserves the right to discontinue your membership of the group if your continued participation poses a risk in the view of the session leader to your own health and safety and that of others in the group.
Are beginners welcome?
Absolutely, they are. One of the reasons Pickleball has proved to be so popular is that the rules have been designed to make the game as accessible as possible. The serve, for example, is underarm, which means that the game can’t be dominated by a big server, as is often the case in tennis.
In your first session, you will be introduced to the basic shots and rules, and within an hour, you will be playing your first games.
Do I need my own paddle?
No, we have paddles and balls for members to use. See you there!
